Document request

Document request

We request documents from Latvian institutions and help arrange the power of attorney, translation, delivery, and further certification.

After receiving the document, we can also help with its further preparation: translation, notarised translation, apostille or legalisation, if the document is intended for submission abroad.

Types of documents that can be requested

PFAT helps request the most commonly needed documents and certificates from Latvian state institutions, if the client is not in Latvia or wishes to entrust the entire process to a single office.

  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage certificate
  • Death certificate
  • Certificate of employment history
  • Certificate of salary
  • Certificate of education
  • Certificate of no criminal record
  • Certificate of place of residence

Power of attorney for requesting documents

For our employee to represent the client at a Latvian institution, a notarised power of attorney is often required. It must specify which documents need to be obtained and from which institutions they should be requested.

  • Representation at Latvian state institutions
  • Clarifying the list of documents
  • Verifying institution names
  • Agreeing on the method of receipt

When document requesting is useful

This service is especially useful when a document is needed by a foreign institution, an embassy, an employer, a university, or for handling family matters, but the original issued in Latvia is not available or a new extract is needed.

  • The document is lost or no longer meets the receiving institution's validity-period requirement
  • A new extract is needed
  • The client is abroad
  • The document must be further prepared with a translation or apostille

Further preparation of the document for use abroad

If the obtained document is intended for use abroad, translation, notarisation, an Apostille or legalisation may also be required. The exact submission requirements should be confirmed with the receiving authority.

  • Document translation
  • Notarised translation
  • Apostille
  • Document legalisation
Requesting a document

If you don't have the document yet, we start with the right issuing authority

Sometimes an Apostille or translation cannot be started because a new extract, duplicate or a specific document form is needed. We first identify the issuing authority; the client should confirm the required submission form with the foreign receiving authority.

1

Issuing authority

We determine where to request the document and whether it can be done remotely.

2

Document form

We clarify which document the client wants to obtain: an original, extract, reissued document or multilingual form, where available.

3

After receiving the document

We plan translation, apostille or legalisation without unnecessary delay.

If the document must be requested

We align the document request with the further preparation

If the document has not yet been obtained, it is important to clarify which form is needed for the selected service. The client separately confirms the foreign recipient's submission requirements.

We assess the document form; the client should confirm the required form for foreign submission with the receiving authority.

Translation and Apostille

At the request stage, we clarify which services may be needed after the document is obtained: translation, notarisation, an Apostille or legalisation. Collection or delivery is agreed separately.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this about documents from Latvian institutions?

Yes. The service covers documents and certificates issued by Latvian institutions.

Can an apostille be arranged after the document is requested?

If the document qualifies and the country where it will be used requires it, an apostille or legalisation may be needed.

Which documents can be sent for review?

You can send birth and marriage certificates, diplomas, statements, powers of attorney, company documents and other documents for review. After checking them, we clarify the correct process.

Is a photo or PDF enough to start?

For the first review, a clear photo or PDF is usually enough. After checking the document, we will tell you whether the original is needed for final preparation.

What if my document type is not listed?

Choose “Other document” in the form or send a document photo. We will check the issuing authority, destination country and required preparation route.

Can you help request a document from an institution?

Yes, first we determine the document type, the issuing authority and the form in which the document will be valid abroad.
