Apostille and legalisation

What is an Apostille?

An Apostille certifies the authenticity of the signature, the capacity in which the person signing the public document has acted and, where appropriate, the identity of the seal or stamp. It does not certify the document’s content.

An Apostille is used to authenticate a public document for presentation abroad when the Hague Apostille Convention applies and no exemption from authentication is available.

An Apostille may be used for public documents that fall within the scope of the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. The applicable procedure depends on the document and destination country.

Key answers

FAQ

What is an Apostille?

An Apostille confirms the authenticity of a public document for use in countries applying the Hague Convention.

Can I send a document remotely?

Yes, a photo or PDF is enough for the first assessment, although the original may be required later.

What is an apostille?

An apostille certifies the origin of a public document for use in another country. It does not confirm the content itself, but helps the receiving institution verify the signature, seal or official capacity.

Can apostille preparation be handled remotely?

Part of the preparation can start remotely after reviewing a photo or PDF of the document. If the original is required, we explain it before the next step.

What affects the apostille price?

The price depends on the document type, destination country requirements, translation needs, notarisation, urgency and delivery method.

When is a notarised translation needed?

A notarised translation is needed when the institution requires an officially certified translation rather than a simple text translation. We check the required certification before processing the order.

What is the difference between apostille and legalisation?

Apostille is usually used for countries that recognise the Hague Convention procedure. Legalisation may be needed when the destination country does not apply that procedure or requires another confirmation route.

Which documents can be sent for review?

You can send birth and marriage certificates, diplomas, statements, powers of attorney, company documents and other documents for review. After checking them, we clarify the correct process.

Should translation or apostille be done first?

The correct order depends on the destination country and the receiving institution. We check whether apostille, translation, notary certification or legalisation should come first.

Is a photo or PDF enough to start?

For the first review, a clear photo or PDF is usually enough. After checking the document, we will tell you whether the original is needed for final preparation.

What if my document type is not listed?

Choose “Other document” in the form or send a document photo. We will check the issuing authority, destination country and required preparation route.
